ADVANCING FREEDOM AND HUMAN RIGHTS
Kuwait City, Kuwait. Former Prime Minister Campbell went to Kuwait to participate in an forum hosted by the Fahad Al Salem Center for Dialogue Among Civlizations and Defense of Liberty titled, “Renewing Dialogue for Peace; Advancing Freedom and Human Rights in today’s world.” Other former leaders (and also Club de Madrid Members) scheduled to attend: Vicente Fox (Mexico), Cesar Gaviria (Colombia), Wim Kok (Netherlands), Chandrika Kumaratunga (Sri Lanka), Luis Alberto Lacalle (Uruguay), Benjamin Mkapa (Tanzania), Olusegun Obasanjo (Nigeria), Andres Pastrana (Colombia), Petre Roman (Romania), Jorge Sampaio (Portugal), Jennifer Shipley (New Zealand), Cassen Uteem (Mauritius), Lech Walesa (Poland), as well as His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Fahad Al Salem Center explained the reasoning for convening the forum: For nearly 6,000 years the Middle East has served as the crossroads of civilization, culture and commerce--a place where scholars, artisans, merchants and global citizens alike gathered not only to trade goods, but ideas that have helped to shape the world in which we live today.
That tradition continues today with the convening of the Center for Dialogue Among Civilization's inaugural forum entitled, “Renewing Dialogue for Peace; Advancing Freedom and Human Rights in today’s world.”

As the first set of high level discussions ended at the inaugural meeting of The Fahad al Salem Center for Dialogue Among Civilizations and Defense of Liberty in the Kuwaiti capital on Monday, the founder and chairman of the centre Sheikh Fahad al Salem al Sabah seemed content with the initial progress.
The two day conference, that began on Sunday at the Regency Hotel, has brought together former world leaders and diplomats, as well as human rights campaigners and social activists in an attempt to bridge the gap between nations and create a forum in which ideas and opinions could be shared and disseminated.
Talking to an international gathering of reporters following talks with invited guests and high level delegates, Sheikh Fahad al Sabah was content with the deliberations on the first day and was looked forward to continue the talks in an effort to find a possible solution to the regions problems, thrown up by the so-called ‘Arab Spring of 2011’.
“It was inevitable that change would come to the region,” said Sheikh Fahad. He added that the newly founded centre would be working hard towards bringing about the change.
“People have the right to call for their own futures and choose the route. The bottom line is that liberty, democracy and freedom of expression are the very basics of society,” he said. “There were some good results from the debates in the first and second sessions today (Sunday). We have established the foundation for dialogue and looked at the sequence needed for peaceful change.”
Sheikh al Sabah also revealed his desire to broadcast --- أكثر

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait, Sheikh Fahad Al Salem Al Ali Al Sabah, former Minister in Kuwait and former political prisoner during the Gulf War in 1990, officially announces the launch of an ambitious and international project for peace improvement in the world
Gurgaon, Delhi, February 15, 2011 /India PRwire/ -- Sheikh Fahad Al Salem Al Ali Al Sabah, President of the Center for Dialogue among Civilizations and former Minister for Agriculture in Kuwait, has decided to involve himself in the active promotion of human rights and public liberties in order to fight against extremism's expansion all over the world. On the occasion on the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait, the Sheikh, who is one of the best witnesses of what occurs in 1990 as he was taken as a prisoner of war by Iraq from November of 1990 till his release in June of 1991, announces the launch of an important project for peace improvement. This project, already supported by key former and emblematic political leaders and prestigious international foundations, is especially topical regarding recent demonstrations in North Africa and the willingness for freedom and public liberties among those populations.
Ignorance is one of the major threats for peace. Therefore, the main issue nowadays is to improve mass education and people's knowledge so as to enhance tolerance and respect. To achieve this goal, creating cultural bridges is strategic in order to overturn constant brainwashing of populations orchestrated by extremists.
